Passport Information

Passports are critical for international travel. The most up-to-date passport information, and additional resources, can be found on the US Department of State’s website
 
Apply for a Passport In-Person:
  • You must apply in person if at least one of the following is true:
    • You are applying for your first U.S. passport
    • You are under age 16
    • Your previous U.S. passport was issued when you were under age 16
    • Your previous U.S. passport was lost, stolen, or damaged
    • Your previous U.S. passport was issued more than 15 years ago
If none of the above statements apply to you, you may be eligible to renew by mail
 
  • You will need to bring:
    • A completed DS-11 Form
    • Proof of Citizenship (and photocopy)
    • Proof of Identification (and photocopy)
    • Passport photo (we are happy to take the passport photo for free for you in the GO Office)
    • Application and processing fees- separate checks needed
  • Processing Agencies:
    • You can find a passport processing agency near you by entering the zip code into this webpage
    • The closest agencies to Susquehanna University are:
      • New Berlin Post Office (Tel. 5709662139). Appointment required
      • Snyder County Clerk of Courts Office (Tel. 570-8374202). No appointment needed. Does not have photo facilities
      • Union County Prothonotary Office (Tel. 5705248751). No appointment needed

Renew by Mail:
  • You need to have a passport valid for 6 months after your return date of travel
  • You can renew by mail if your most recent passport:
    • Is submitted with your application
    • Is undamaged (other than normal "wear and tear")
    • Was issued when you were age 16 or older
    • Was issued within the last 15 years
    • Was issued in your current name (or you can document your name change with an original or certified copy of your marriage certificate, divorce decree, or court order) 
If any of those do not apply to you, you will need to apply in-person
  • For renewals, you will:
    • Fill out and print the DS-82 Form
    • Send in your current passport
    • New passport photo (We are happy to take the passport photo for free for you in the GO Office)
    • A check covering application fee
Costs:
  • Passport Book: $110
  • Execution fee: $25 (for in-person applicants)
  • Expedited fee: $60
  • Overnight delivery: $15.45
Processing Time:
  • Processing time varies. Please start the passport process early. 
  • From the US Department of State: "We encourage customers to expedite their applications if traveling in less than 6 weeks."

It was announced that some state IDs will not be valid for domestic air travel after January 2018 because they are not Real-ID compliant. Please look online to see if your state ID is compliant (note: PA is not compliant and alternative ID will be required as of January 2018 for domestic air travel).
