What to Do in an Emergency during GO – Families

WHAT IS AN EMERGENCY?
The word “emergency” is broad in meaning; it can include any number of situations and number of individuals. Because of this, the GO office defines an emergency as the following: illness/injury requiring emergency medical personal, assault/mugging, sexual assault, arrest, missing persons, death, natural disaster, civil unrest, and catastrophic incident.

What to Do in an Emergency during GO – Family/Friends
If there is an emergency in the location of your student, Susquehanna will reach out to the students’ emergency contact information on file. Please coordinate with your student prior to departure to ensure that this information is correct.

If there is an emergency that you do not think SU is aware of, you should first try to get in touch with your student directly. Remember that students may not have cell or internet access in their immediate location and may be in a different time zone than you. Please give students time to return contact before reaching out to SU. If you have not been able to contact the student, please contact Susquehanna University:

Please be prepared to provide as much of the following information as possible:
  • your name & relationship to student
  • student name
  • country & activity/program of study
  • date & time of occurrence/condition
  • description of occurrence/condition
  • action taken thus far
  • action requested
  • return contact information

*Note that missed deadlines, delayed or canceled flights, personal communication issues, and non-emergency international insurance questions are NOT considered emergencies.
