Course Transfer How-To - for Students

COURSE APPROVAL REQUESTS:
To assess Course Approvals, click on the “course approval” tab on your application.
You will submit course requested in one of two ways: 
 
Option 1: Select courses from pre-approved course listing:
From the Course Offerings section, you are able to view and select from a full listing of available foreign courses and the equivalent SU courses for the program. The "Search" bar can be used to filter results.

Please make sure that you select preferred and alternate course options for review.
Information is organized into these columns:
  • Foreign Course: Listed by title. A foreign course may be listed more than once if it has different SU course equivalents. 
  • Equivalent Home (SU) Course: Listed by title.
  • Credit Type: A drop-down menu gives you the option to choose what type of credit to receive for the course (i.e. Major, Minor, General Elective, Language Credit, or Unknown).
    • Major: your major or a central curriculum course
    • Minor: your minor
    • General Elective: general elective credit – not for a specific requirement
    • Please do not select “unknown” or “language credit”
  • Preferred Approver: You can search for and select the faculty/staff member to whom they prefer to send their request. When a Preferred Approver is selected, a system-generated email notification will be sent to this individual, allowing them to view and decide on this specific course approval request. Only one Approver per each course approval request may be selected.
You select courses by checking the desired box to the left of the foreign course, followed by clicking "Add to Course Approval Requests". The course then moves to the Course Approval Requests section and appears in draft status until the you submit the courses.
Option 2: Enter in new course for approval:
If you cannot locate a desired course from the Course Offerings section, you can click on "Add a custom equivalent course".

This action expands the Custom Course Approval section which is comprised of two parts:
Foreign Course, organized as follows:
  • Search for Foreign Course: You manually enter a course, then the next four fields will display: code, description, URL, and document upload.
  • Code: A course code, such as "Econ 100", this is the program’s course code
  • Description: Available space to provide a course description.
  • URL: Available space to provide a URL to a course catalog.
  • Drop Syllabus/Browse: Upload a course syllabus by dragging/dropping the file or browsing. YOU MUST UPLOAD A COPY OF THE SYLLABUS
Course Approval, organized as follows:
  • Home Course: Use a drop-down menu to search and select a home course equivalent, if known, of the foreign course selected. 
  • Search for Department: An you can search for and select a department
    • Note: Central Curriculum is noted in this section as a department
  • Credit Type: A drop-down menu gives the you the option to choose what type of credit to receive for the course (i.e. Major, Minor, General Elective, Language Credit, or Unknown).
    • Major: your major or a central curriculum course
    • Minor: your minor
    • General Elective: general elective credit – not for a specific requirement
    • Please do not select “unknown” or “language credit”
  • Search for Preferred Approver: An you can search for and select the faculty/staff member to whom to send the request. Only one approver per each course approval request may be selected.
    • Department Heads should be selected for Major/minor courses
    • Ariana Stuhl for Central Curriculum courses
  • Comment: Ability for an you to leave additional details about the request for the Approver. This is especially useful when you manually enters a foreign course and selects their desired home course department and credit type. 
After completing the Custom Course Approval section for one request, you should click "Add to Course Approval Requests". This will move the request down to the Course Approval Requests section of the page. This action also clears the Custom Course Approval section so that you can continue with creating additional Custom Course Approval requests.
 
Course Approval Requests:
Within the Course Approval Requests section, information is organized into columns that highlight the requested foreign course, department, credit type, home course equivalent, credit hours, and request status. All course approval requests appear in "draft" status until an you are ready to submit their full request by clicking "Submit Courses". This action sends out an email notification to the respective Approver(s).

The "Action" column can be used to expand the request and view more specific details about the request.
