About Philippines: Learning, Understanding and Service (PLUS):
This program offers students an immersive service-learning program in a culture very different from central Pennsylvania. Participants spend their days working with people whose experience of poverty is much different from what we have in the U.S. Rather than seeing a different culture in passing, students spend considerable time with the families they work with, getting to know them as people.
Financial aid: Need-based aid may be available
Program Directors: Jeffrey Mann, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Religion, and Steve Saterlee
The PLUS trip to the Philippines was a life-altering experience for me. While I’d previously been intellectually aware of the state of other places in the world, experiencing it first-hand was an emotional roller coaster - one that I remain grateful for now, eight years later. I will never forget the things I saw and learned on our trip, and I plan to use that knowledge to help my children learn about the world we live in as they grow. I’m thankful to have been chosen to have that experience in my life. -Rowena Brooks (2008 participant)
About GO Short:
Through intentional programming, students make the most of their short-term study abroad on GO Short programs. You will study away with Susquehanna faculty/staff leading a small group of Susquehanna classmates, all of whom have participated in the program’s preparation (i.e. GO Prep) course in the semester prior to departure. After an intensive, active program, there is a reflection course for the program to optimize your cross-cultural learning. As these programs run during winter or summer breaks and are 2-6 weeks, they are great opportunities for students to study away without committing to a full semester.
